History
The Korean Society of Pediatric Urology (KSPU) was established on April 25, 1992. It originated from the Korean Pediatric Urology Association which was founded on April 25,1987. The Korean Pediatric Urology Association had effectively contributed to the development of pediatric urology through a total of 9 case conferences until 1991.
Eight pediatric urologists (Seung Gun Gho, Kwang Myung Kim, Kwang Sae Kim, Soo Bang Ryu, Young Nam Woo, Jong Byeong Yoon, Seung Kang Choi, and Hwang Choi) promoted the establishment of the KSPU. The first academic conference along with the general meeting was held ao the auditorium of Pusan National University Hospital on April 25,1992. Annual academic conferences have been held until now, and newly established case conferences have been held since 2004.
Besides various activities in Korea, the KSPU established the Korean and Japanese Society of Pediatric Urologists (KJSPU) with Japanese pediatric urologists for an academic exchange in 1998. Moreover, the KSPU has participated in the Asia Pacific Association of Paediatric Urologists (APAPU) since 1999 and has made a broad academic exchange.
Owing to the aforementioned activities, the KSPU is recognized as an academy with specialty and will meet the ever growing needs and goals of our society members.
